Welcome to Southwest Adams County Fire Rescue (SWAC).  We are a special district of the State of Colorado and are overseen by a District Board comprised of five publicly elected officials.

We protect approximately ten square miles comprised of unincorporated Adams County, Arvada, and Westminster.  The main district boundaries are from 52nd Ave to 92nd Ave and from Sheridan Blvd to Pecos Street.

Annual District Board Elections Set
The 2012 election for District Board members will be held May 8 from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.  Voting centers are located at Station 11 (3365 W. 65th Avenue, Denver, CO) and Station 14 (3821 W. 88th Avenue, Westminster, CO).
The candidates are Robert Espinosa, Greg Neal, and Randy Ferguson.  There are two positions up for election.

Garage Fire Extends to Residence (B-Shift)

Firefighters Honored for Life Saved
2/16/12 ~ Captain Clinton Garner and Firefighters Josh Ciardullo, Stephane Legault, Tony Pedron, Heath Sayers, and Matt Taylor were honored for their actions that saved the life of a man pinned under a vehicle at a local gas station.  (Story continued at the Westminster Window).

B-Shift Extinguishes Basement Fire
2/4/12 ~ Firefighters extinguished a blaze this morning that gutted the basement of a home in unincorporated Adams County...(story continued at the DenverPost.com)

C-Shift Extinguishes Bedroom Fire
2/4/12 ~ An early morning bedroom fire was rapidly extinguished in the Perl Mack neighborhood.  Firefighters responded to find fire and smoke venting from a front bedroom window.  Firefighters had to deal with the ongoing snowstorm and 16 inches of fallen snow.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A-Shift Snuffs Mobile Home Fire

Busy 2011
The department ended 2011 with 2641 calls, the highest total since 2007.  This included nearly 300 calls in July and a busy New Year's Eve 2011 for C-Shift.  End of year reports will be completed later in 2012 and posted here.

C-Shift assists in Goodwill Headquarters Fire
Firefighters were called to assist with a fire started when work crews were cutting out a malfunctioning trash compactor.  Medic 11 transported one victim to a nearby hospital...(story continued at Denver Post)

A-Shift Extinguishes Difficult House Fire
12/08/11 ~ Just before 1400 hours Southwest Adams County Firefighters were alerted to a report of a possible garage on fire on 64th Ave just east of Federal Blvd. First due Engine 11 arrived on scene to find active fire behind the residence by the garage at 2811 W. 64th Ave, and advised dispatch of a working house fire on the Charlie & Bravo side of the residential structure...(story continued and pics at 5280fire.com)

The Westminster Elks honored Todd Stockford as their Firefighter of the Year.  The Westminster Shriner Chapter honored Corey Davidson and Mike Tavalez as their Firefighters of the Year.  Please click on their names to read their award biography.

C-Shift Snuffs Bedroom Fire  
An evening bedroom fire on a cold and snowy December 4th was quickly extinguished, saving further damage to a home on 74th Way.  Firefighters arrived to find a front bedroom fully engulfed in fire and smoke billowing from the roof vents and eaves.  The homeowner was able to escape without injury.  The cause of the fire is under investigation..(story continued and pics at 5280fire.com)

SWAC hosts county HazMat Training
In May of 2011, the department hosted quarterly training for the Adams/Jefferson County HazMat Team.  The exercise was staged at the vacant Clear Lake Middle School and simulated a chlorine and unknown acid release.  Firefighters from five area departments took part in the training.

2010 EMS Grants in Review
In 2010, the department was able to secure nearly $50,000 in grants for EMS equipment.  This included $30,000 for new Zoll cardiac monitors with capnography and carbon monoxide monitoring capability; and, $16,000 for two Stryker power PRO battery powered hydraulic cots and three Knox boxes to secure medications in the ambulances.

    

 

Engine 11 Upgraded to ALS
In 2010, the department added Advanced Life Support (ALS) capabilities to Engine 11. When a paramedic is working on this apparatus, they now have the proper equipment to treat patients with advanced care, including cardiac monitoring, advanced airway, and limited medications.  This advanced care is in addition to the ALS status of both department ambulances.

Reserve Firefighters Added
    
November 2010
The department would like to welcome six new reserve firefighters that will begin to volunteer for shifts in December.   Congratulations Carie Porter, Paul Beard, Joe Ciancio, Jordan Long, Jeff Woog, and Mark Wylie!  This brings the total of volunteer firefighters to 15.  If you would like information about our volunteer firefighter program, click here.

Workplace Injuries Low for 2009
    
June 17, 2010
At the June District Board Meeting, the department's insurance company, VFIS, presented the District with a refund check for $3000 for keeping workplace injuries at a minimum for 2009.

Open House
Please join us June 26th from 11am to 2pm for an open house at Station 11.  Food and beverages will be provided (funded by donations).
Activities will include the smokehouse, blood pressure checks, station and apparatus tours, File of Life signup, and car seat inspections.
