Equal Opportunity Employer
The District is committed to the goal of equal employment opportunity. It is the District's goal to recruit, hire, appoint, train and promote in all positions without regard to race, color, religion, creed, national origin, ancestry, gender, pregnancy, sexual orientation, transgender status, marital status, military status, veteran status, membership or non-membership in a labor organization, age or disability, unless the disability precludes the employee or applicant from performing the essential functions of the job notwithstanding reasonable accommodations, or status in any other group protected by any Federal, State or local law.

RESERVE FIREFIGHTER PROGRAM
Southwest Adams County Fire Rescue originated as an all volunteer department and to date, continues this longstanding tradition.  While the face of  volunteer firefighting has changed with the challenges of added work and family constraints, SWAC continues to provide opportunities for reserve firefighters.

Reserve firefighters are required to work 48 hours per month.  This often consists of four 12 hour shifts but can extend to 24 hours shifts if desired.  Volunteers must have Colorado Firefighter I and HazMat Ops certifications to be considered.  EMT-Basic is recommended as well.

In addition, the department offers Firefighter Academies from time to time for a fee.  The program is typically three days per week (two evenings and one weekend day) and prepares the candidate to test for Firefighter I and HazMat Operations.  From this academy, candidates may be selected for entry into the department's reserve program.  This is usually based on current reserve staffing levels, as well as the attributes of the candidate.
Upcoming academies will be announced on the website or inquiries can be made to the training officer,
Lieutenant Mike Tavalez.
